Selected Majumdar-Papapetrou spacetimes

One of the important analytical solutions of Einstein-Maxwell equations is the Majumdar-Papapetrou class, which consists of extremal sources of gravitational and electromagnetic field. Using several independent methods, we investigate the properties of two particular cases: a pair of extremal Reissner-Nordström black holes in equilibrium and the field of an infinitely long, straight, extremally charged massive string.
