Carlos Rito (CMUP, UPorto) Surfaces of
general type with χ=1 and K2 = 7 If S is a surface
of general type with the lowest possible value of the holomorphic Euler
characteristic, χ=1, then 1 ≤ K2
≤9, where K denotes the
canonical divisor of S. The case K2 = 7 is among the most
mysterious. Far from being classified, only few examples are known. In this
talk, I will explain the construction of old and new examples. |

Gustavo Granja (IST, ULisboa) Symplectic embeddings in infinite
codimension Let
M be an
even dimensional manifold and α ϵ
H2(M;R).
Let X be a union of a sequence of symplectic manifolds with dimension tending to infinity.
We use Tischler and Popov's elementary method of
constructing symplectic embeddings
in projective space to show that the map Emb(M,X) →
[α] pulling back the limiting symplectic form
is a weak Serre fibration.
As an application we produce versal families of closed forms on
products of infinite dimensional projective spaces and compute some homotopy types of spaces of symplectic
embeddings. This is joint work with Manuel Araujo. |

André Oliveira (CM, UTAD) Geometry and
topology of quadratic pairs moduli spaces Quadratic pairs
over a compact Riemann surface X
are generalisations of orthogonal bundles. A motivation for the study of the
moduli spaces of these objects comes from Higgs bundles for the symplectic group. We will explain this motivation
and then present some basic results on the geometry and topology of the
moduli spaces of rank 2 quadratic pairs on X. |
