Hair formation on black holes in Einstein-dilaton Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Presenting author: Robert Benkel

I will consider a scalar-tensor theory of gravity that includes a linear coupling of the scalar field to the Gauss-Bonnet invariant. The fact that black hole solutions in this theory are known to have scalar hair makes the study of such spacetimes particularly interesting. I will present results of numerical simulations of hair formation in a static, spherically symmetric background and also consider spacetimes describing stellar collapse. I will then discuss the physical implications of these results.
