Non-stationary spacetimes in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory

Presenting author: Jorge Rocha

Stationary black holes in low energy string theory have been investigated for decades but little is known about their non-stationary counterparts. I will discuss spherically symmetric, but time-dependent, solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton field equations. In particular, a new family of exact time-dependent solutions to the unsourced (vacuum) field equations will be presented. These spacetimes are asymptotically flat and have constant electric charge. In the vanishing charge case one recovers Roberts' solution of the Einstein-massless scalar system. The solutions are part of a larger class of dynamical spacetimes supported by null dust. These can be used to describe analytically the accretion (or radiation) of matter onto black holes and thus provide valuable avenues to address cosmic censorship.
